Merrimack River Greenway Trail

Where does the trail go from here?
You are standing near the end of the Northern Rail Trail. Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail (MRGT), in partnership with the City of Concord, is working to continue this popular trail along the same abandoned railroad right of way, to Downtown Concord and beyond.
History
Pan Am Railways, now owned by CSX Railways, discontinued the use of the 6.3-mile long railroad and formally abandoned it in March 2017. 5.8 miles are in Concord.
Status
The City of Concord is negotiating the purchase of 5.8 miles of the land. (The rest of the 6.3-mile corridor was purchased by Friends of the Northern Rail Trail and given to the State of NH.) When the Concord purchase is completed, the City plans to begin work to extend the trail to Downtown Concord. A $1 million grant has already been secured to help pay for construction of the first 1.8-mile long section of trail.
You can help
The grant, from the federal "Transportation Alternatives Program" (TAP) requires a $250,000 match from local donations. You can help by donating to the effort.
